About the item
On April 2, 2006, a severe storm tore through central Kentucky and damaged several Buffalo Trace barrel warehouses. Warehouse C—home to many barrels of Colonel E.H. Taylor at the time—sustained significant damage to its roof and north wall.

While repairs were being made a number of barrels sat exposed to the elements for months on the top floor of the warehouse, leading to increased interaction with the wood and higher evaporation.

The "Tornado Surviving" batch was 93 total (top floor) barrels that were aged between 9 and nearly 12 years old. The overall evaporation rate was an astonishing 63.9%—high for barrels of that age—making the total yield much smaller than expected.
